Want to know how to start saving time (and seeing results) with content repurposing? Keep reading!
Your blog is a goldmine that most of us leave un-tapped. Blogging isn’t just about writing long-form SEO content—it’s about creating content you can adapt and repurpose across your entire marketing strategy. Imagine taking a single blog post and giving it new life across various digital platforms. You spent time and energy on your blog post, so you owe it to yourself to make sure you get the most mileage from those ideas. You can put in the effort once, then reap the benefits over and over, filling out your content calendar in just a few clicks!
Repurposing your blog content is not just an afterthought for me in my business. I plan all of my blog posts with repurposing in mind and I batch all the work at once so I knock it out in one fell swoop. Then, when it’s time to create social post images or Pinterest pins, I already have a plan in place and copy written. This is such a time-saver and helps my content stay consistent everywhere someone might find me. Using this system myself has made such a difference for me that I now offer content repurposing as a service to clients, taking your blog content even further and fleshing out your entire content strategy for you. Why You Need to Be Repurposing Your Blog Content
Blog posts are packed with potential, offering all of your best expertise, stories, and insights ready to be shared. By viewing your blog as a flexible resource, you unlock a ton of possibilities to connect with your audience in meaningful ways. Since blog posts are likely the longest and most in-depth content pieces you create, they’re formatted perfectly for adaptation. Simply do a bit of cutting, pasting, and restructuring with each content channel’s format in mind, and you’ll come away with a vast library of digital marketing content. At least 94% of professional marketers actively repurpose their content—it’s time to join them!
In this post, I’m going to show you five concrete ways to repurpose your blog content to make the most of your digital marketing strategy. To help you envision this strategy in action, let’s say you’re a wedding photographer and your original blog post is called “5 Tips for Planning Your Engagement Photoshoot in Chicago.” I’ll use that imaginary post to illustrate how you can adapt your content for different channels. (Want some real blog post ideas? Read 10 blog ideas for wedding pros.) It’s time to maximize your blog’s value by repurposing that content!
1. Repurposing Blog Posts as Social Media Captions
Social media thrives on concise, engaging content that captures attention quickly and sparks conversation and connection. Plus, it’s been shown that people who see your brand and interact with it 7 times are much more likely to become a loyal follower and customer. Posting short, sweet, and shareable content consistently is what you’re going for! By using snippets, quotes, or interesting facts from your blog, you create posts that pique curiosity and drive traffic back to your blog for the full story. (Hint—this is the perfect use case for a tool like Manychat in your captions!)
When your blog post is formatted as a listicle, use the numbered sections to easily format your social media captions and even your images (think: carousel!). “5 Tips for Planning Your Engagement Photoshoot in Chicago” can become 5 separate posts, each highlighting one main tip with a short paragraph adapted from the blog content. Or, it could be a carousel post where the images shows each tip on a single slide and the caption highlights them all.
2. Creating Pin Descriptions from Blog Posts
Pinterest is a visual platform, but its algorithm really thrives on captivating, keyword-rich descriptions. For wedding industry businesses, Pinterest is still the best place to promote your blog content in order for new HOT leads to discover your site. (Each year, there are over 3 billion wedding-related searches and more than 10 billion wedding ideas saved globally on Pinterest.) By repurposing your blog posts as Pinterest content, you’re positioning your content in front of billions of active searchers and providing value where people are looking for it.
For our example blog post, imagine your ideal couple is searching Pinterest for engagement photoshoot inspo in Chicago. You can create a pin featuring a beautiful photo of a couple in an iconic (searchable) Chicago location. Then you’ll adapt a description from the blog post copy that highlights that location and teases one or more of your tips for choosing the perfect photo backdrop in Chicago. Couples actively looking for a photographer will not only find your work, but they’ll also be encouraged to click through to your blog for more tips and advice, which leads them to the rest of your site.
3. Adapting Email Newsletters from Blog Content
You can repurpose blog content for your email newsletter in several ways. One option is to be super direct—simply tell your audience that you have a new blog post, give a short teaser snippet in the body of the email, then include a call to action button to “keep reading.” You could also weave the blog content into the email in a more subtle way, re-writing it in a very personal voice, as if you’re telling a story to a friend. When you repurpose your blog content for your email list, you’re not only increasing traffic to your website but you’re also providing true value to your audience where they’re most likely to read it.
If I were a wedding photographer writing an email newsletter to my audience and I wanted to repurpose my example blog post on Chicago engagement photo tips, here’s what I’d do. If possible, I’d segment my list to just engaged couples in Chicago (did you know that segmented emails drive 30% more opens and 50% more clickthroughs than unsegmented ones?). The main content would repurpose a quick summary of each point, including a couple of ways I stand out from my local competition to make it personal. Then I’d squeeze in a testimonial from a happy couple who talks about their engagement shoot with me. I’d finish by including a call to action button linking out to the full post for more.
4. Turning Blog Posts into Video Content
Video content (like Instagram reels, TikTok videos, and YouTube content) is increasingly becoming the algorithm’s favorite format to push to new audiences. As uncomfortable as it makes many of us to put our faces out there for all to see, your digital marketing strategy really needs to include some video! Video content allows you to bring your written ideas to life, capturing your audience’s attention and providing them with a rich, immersive experience that helps build your personal brand. If blog content succeeds because it’s long-form, video content does well because it’s multi-dimensional!
To repurpose our example blog post “5 Tips for Planning Your Engagement Photoshoot in Chicago,” you can adapt it to serve as a script or outline for a video. This allows you to expand on topics and connect with audiences in a dynamic way. Try creating a short video tour of iconic Chicago photoshoot locations or a behind-the-scenes look at an engagement session. You can always add voice-over to existing video clips you already have so that you can re-work them to fit the topic.
5. Repurposing Blog Content for Your Podcast
Podcasts offer a unique opportunity to engage with audiences through audio storytelling. This not only diversifies your content offerings but also allows you to reach audiences who prefer listening over reading. It’s like having a friendly chat with your audience, sharing insights and advice in a personal and relatable way. To repurpose your blog content for podcasts, reframe your topic as advice to the listener and use your blog post as an outline or guiding script.
Similar to video, our example engagement photoshoot blog post can be transformed into a podcast episode where you discuss tips for planning the perfect shoot, share personal stories or favorite locations, or conduct an interview with a couple that had a really stellar engagement shoot with you. Of course, your shownotes should link back to the blog post for more traffic!
